This is the fourth capital the flat fellas have visited since we left Texas. Can you list the four?
In the past four weeks, Flat Stanley and Flat Hal have made their way to four unique capitals in the Pacific: Honolulu, Hawai’i; Pago Pago, American Samoa; Suva, Fiji; and Nuku’alofa, Tonga. While all are capitals, they each hold a different political status:
Honolulu is the capital of Hawai’i, the 50th state of the United States.
Pago Pago is the capital of American Samoa, an unincorporated territory of the United States. This means it’s under U.S. sovereignty but has a unique relationship with the federal government.
Suva is the capital of Fiji, an independent island nation and a republic.
Nuku’alofa is the capital of Tonga, also an independent island nation, but with a constitutional monarchy as its system of government
The flat fellas went to San Diego, do you know why they did NOT go to the California state capital? (I’ll give you a hint, they were in the state less than 24 hours, and we needed time to eat and sleep. Check where the Capitol building is on a map and you’ll see why we didn’t make it.)
