Flat Hal and Flat Stanley were excited when the ship docked at Fuerte Amador, only to discover that it may be part of Panama City, but it is a long walk from most of the places they hoped to see.
The ship came out of the Panama Canal into the Gulf of Panama — we’ve been in the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea and now the Gulf of Panama, as well as Gatun Lake, did we miss any major bodies of water in our count?
The dock at Fuerte Amador is a LONG causeway away from not just the city, but the mainland. Fuerte Amador is a man-made peninsula, made from leftovers from the construction of the canal that was dumped to create a breakwater and causeway.

As Flat Hal and Flat Stanley made their way along the causeway from Fuerte Amador into Panama City they saw several interesting statues, including one to honor those who worked to build the Panama Canal.

Then we went on a road that went around the city… seemingly out over the water to do so! This road was built YEARS after most of the city, and let us see the “old” and “new” city before being driven into the center of a bunch of buildings and dropped off to explore on our own.
