Have you heard someone say “a picture is worth a thousand words”?
This is a time when I feel that way. Not only does this picture capture the State Capitol building, with the state seal on the BIG round piece of metal hanging out front, but it also shows something really special about the people of Hawaii.

In the foreground is a bell, not just any bell, a replica of the Liberty Bell. The original is in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on display where tourists, school groups, it seems like anyone can come see it. But Philadelphia is a LONG way from Honolulu, Hawaii?
Do you know how far? Hawaii is under the blue dot… the Liberty Bell Center is marked by a star!

Someone thought about how many school kids in America learn about the Liberty Bell, and what it represents to us, and how few students in Hawaii might get to go to Pennsylvania to see it… but they also thought about how many classes and families take a trip to visit their Capitol Building. Now when visiting the Capitol building in Honolulu, a link to some special United States history is waiting to be discovered.
Another special thing about the Capitol Building is the dome. Can you see it in the picture?
Let me offer a hint: it is visible in the picture, and feels like it stays true to the Hawaiian culture, but at first glance you might not think of it as a dome.

It has an “open dome” because the sky is their dome.
Directly under the dome is a representation of the water.

While Flat Hal and Flat Stanley were at the Capitol Building we stopped in at the office of the Governor on the fourth floor and got official stamps to put in their tourist passports to represent the visit… one month and they’ve gone to two state capitols together!
