It is very rare for everything on a trip to go the way it was planned. Whether a flight is delayed, a port is missed, or the ship needs to stay longer than planned in a port for one reason or another, part of traveling is learning how to roll with these unexpected changes.
Some travelers keep a book with them at all times. A delay is just another chance to read. Others have a notebook of blank pages, for them it is an opportunity to create.
Whatever your style, however you relax, having something you enjoy near at hand can make waiting to learn the new plan easier. (A deck of playing cards? A device with your favorite games, or music, and an extra battery pack.)
Another thing that can help is taking a moment to see what is happening that you would have missed if things had gone the way you were expecting.
Tonight we were planning to sail at 5 pm. Instead we will sail tomorrow — allowing us to see the sunset from Port of Refuge, Neiafu, Vava’u, Tonga. Something most cruise ship passengers don’t get to see, because sail out is usually before sunset.
